On September 1993, under the India’s Constitution Article 243 k, the Commission of State Election of Gujarat was established. To conduct the elections at local level by impartial, free, and fair position, the Election Commission of the State is very trustworthy.
With no. 73 and no. 74 amendment, there is incorporation of Part-IX and Part-IXA in India’s constitution that covered all the Municipalities and Panchayats provisions. So Election Commission of the State covered the Municipality and Panchayats constitution and their elections also.
The main activities performed by the election commission of the state are ward preparation, division of election according to the rules of local bodies, seats distribution, boundary decision, voter list preparation of local organizations just like District Panchayat, Gram Panchayat, Taluka, state municipal corporation, municipality corporation, and also the supervision of them and conduction of mid and general elections etc. In Election Commission of the State under 243 K article, authority is vested through which it got the power for direction, superintendence, and all local bodies election control.
For the organizations of self government election rules, the appointment of City Election Officer for municipal corporation election, officer of District Election for elections of Panchayat, and Election Officer for District Municipal for Municipality elections had been granted. All the collectors got power to perform every activity in the Gram Panchayat elections by the election commission of the state and on the other hand all the activities related to voter list, seats reservation, election program, and seats allocation and delimitation will be carried out by Election commission of the state.

As a Election Commissioner of the State, Shri P.S. Shah IAS who is retired has been appointment by the Government of the state. w.e.f 10/12/2011
In 1993, the Election Commission at the State Level was constituted after which Shri Ashok Bhatia, Shri B.K. Shah, Shri K.C. Kapoor, and Shri P.J. Dholakia has been worked as the Election Commissioner of the state.
