The State of Punjab has an Election Commission functioning under the Election Commissioner of India, who has been vested with the power of conducting Elections in every State, right from enlisting the eligible voters, conducting elections in an orderly form and declaring the results of the Election.
The Chief Election Commissioner and two Election Commissioners are appointed by the President of India as per the Constitution of India, formed in 1950, just before India was declared a Republic country and amendments made thereupon according to the exigencies of circumstances arising due to political and other conditions.
