Federal Election Commission of India is an autonomous body which conducts the fair elections in India as per the rules laid down by the constitution. Every five years Federal Election Commission conducts free elections abiding by the Electoral Laws laid out by the constitution. It is a permanent body which was established in the year 1950 on 25th of January.
Federal Election Commission reports are made by the Chief Election Commissioner. The president appoints the other two members called the Election Commissioners who contribute to making of Federal Election Commission reports. The appointment of Election commissioners started in the year 1989. But they had a very short tenure at the office. It was finally in the year 1993 that these two additional Election Commissioners concept came into being. The present Chief Election Commissioner of India is Dr S Y Quraishi. In order to remove Chief Election Commissioner from his office two third of majority is required from both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha after proving his inability. Otherwise, the chief election commissioner can practice in his seat till 65 years of age.
Federal Election Commission reports are made by Chief Election Commissioner and his two subordinates that are elected by the President. One recommendation of the CEC, President may elect or remove other commissioners. Their salaries are equal to what the Judges of Supreme Court are eligible to get. The right to decision lies equally in the hands of all three commissioners.
Federal Election Commission Contributions
Federal Election Commission Contributions are towards fair, free and peaceful state and parliament elections. It also contributes towards controlling the ruling party and other parties to ensure that they follow the code of conduct.It has various duties and responsibility including ensuring that the official machinery is not used for anything else other than the electoral purposes. It also takes care of malpractices, electoral offenses and practices as threat to voters, voters’ inducement etc.
Federal Election Commission Contributions are also towards candidates and political parties to follow the principles in practice and to abide by their words. Their code is applicable all over the state, district and the entire country. They head the chief electoral officers who have to look after state elections in the same manner as the ECE looks after the parliament elections.
